Acne Therapy

Do you have acne?

At the Centre for Skin Rejuvenation, we can help you achieve clear, blemish-free skin.

Dr. Thompson and his nurse wife Jeannie, are dedicated to providing you with the safest and most medically effective treatments available.

Our goal is to offer patients a very individualized treatment program specific to your concern and your type of acne.

We provide a regular follow-up evaluation to assess your progress each step of the way. Appointments at the Centre can be booked by telephone or email, and waiting times are minimal.

Acne is the most common skin disorder seen by physicians. Although teens are most often affected by acne, adults in later life may also be affected. Acne is the visible end result of an interplay of hormonal, bacterial, and inflammation disturbances in the skin. Blocked pores trap oil (sebum) that is produced by our sebaceous glands. This creates an environment for the growth of a type of acne bacteria. The inflammation that results produces pimples, or deeper lumps such as cysts or nodules. If acne is neglected or improperly treated, scarring may result.

Types of Acne Lesions:

  1. Comedomes – whiteheads or blackheads. These develop when a hair follicle is blocked by a keratin plug. People with comedomes have bumpy-looking skin.
  2. Papules or Pimples. These are the red bumps.
  3. Pustules. These are papules that contain pus.
  4. Cysts and nodules. These are deeper and have the tendency to scar.

Different types of treatment protocols are needed depending on the type of acne that you have. Therefore, proper identification of your type of acne is necessary by a trained physician and nurse. Unfortunately, acne left untreated or inadequately treated may result in scarring or marks on the skin. This can be a devastating situation for the sufferer, who is often a young teen.

Rosacea is another skin condition that is treated at the Centre. The exact cause of rosacea is not known, but it manifests itself as a red and flushed complexion. Acne-like lesions may also be part of this condition.

Rosacea may be managed with medication and light-based technologies such as Intense Pulsed Light, also known as IPL.

The general goal of acne treatments are:

  1. Reduce sebum (oil) production
  2. Eliminate acne bacteria
  3. Reduce inflammation
  4. Facilitate skin exfoliation

Combination therapies are the best approach. These include:

  • Basic acne-fighting skin care products such as physician approved cleansers and moisturizers
  • Topical preparations – such as antibiotics, benzoyl peroxide, and vitamin A derivatives
  • Oral medications
  • Laser treatments and other light technologies

At the Centre for Skin Rejuvenation, Dr. Lee Thompson and his nurse wife Jeannie, can design treatment protocols to optimize your results, thereby paving the way to a clearer, blemish-free complexion.
